The expenses for pilot training from Private to CFI can be up to 70k (assuming you're going for a fixed-wing license). Expenses for college is no joke either. Realistically, there is no "side job" as a pilot. You either dedicate your career to aviation or you dedicate it to Aerospace Engineering. The expenses for pilot training ALONE are immense enough. Just giving you a reality check. It's good to have these aspirations, but due to the amount of money and the amount of dedication needed for both career paths, you need to pick one. I'm a helicopter pilot, and I'm telling you now, if you want to be a successful commercial pilot, that's going to have to be your main focus. You can't just be an aerospace engineer and have a side job as an airline pilot. Only "side" pilot job I can think of is a part time CFI I guess.

      PS.

If you're serious about becoming a pilot, pursue the Rotorcraft route. Helis are way more fun to fly than fixed winged.
I thank you for is information bro. I honestly will cry if I don't get in. Gpa is 3.75+ so I'm praying and hoping.

If you're not accepted into engineering they may offer you admission with the alternate major of Aeronautical Engineering Technology, from what I understand the coursework is somewhat similar but I believe the technology degree doesn't require as much math, and the coursework has more of a hands on approach. I think the highest math you have to do is Calc 2.

If you're accept into the college of engineering you won't be majoring in aerospace engineering when you get to campus. You start off in the "First Year Engineering" (FYE) where you and all of the other engineering majors take classes and at the end of your freshman year you can declare a major within the college of engineering but each specific engineering major(electrical, mechanical, etc.) have different GPA requirements.

If you're not accepted and offered the alternate major, don't be discouraged because if you want you can talk to your advisor about switching major. But I've had friends who graduated with the technology degree and they often get the same jobs and payrate as those with the engineering degree. Note that the first year of FYE is extremely difficult. I know a lot of people don't know about the technology degree and what it offers because I didn't when I came to Purdue. Good luck bro if u have any questions let me know.
Thanks man. I truly appreciate it but my parents argue with me that engineering is better because pilots rarely make 6 figure salaries and whatnot so there is still confusion

fs2: just a past time that is virtual reality and fades when you cut off your computer, so don't use it to run away from your problems, instead use it to simulate how you want to act in life: never giving up, being humble and taking losses and learning, and giving your all.
